What are affiliate links?
When we link to a product on a retailer's website and you purchase that product after clicking our link, we may receive a commission from the retailer. This commission comes at no additional cost to you - the price you pay is the same whether you click our link or navigate to the retailer directly.
Which links are affiliate links?
Pages that contain affiliate links display a disclosure banner at the top reading: “Affiliate links: Some links on this page are affiliate links. If you purchase through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.”
We participate in affiliate programs including, but not limited to:
- Amazon Associates Program
- Direct retailer affiliate programs for hydroponic suppliers
Not every outbound link on CounterRoots is an affiliate link. Where a link is purely informational or to a source we cite for accuracy, it is not monetised.
How affiliate status affects our content
It doesn't - by policy and by system design. Our editorial scoring and recommendations are produced independently of our affiliate relationships. Our QA pipeline is designed to catch and reject content that scores products more favourably than the underlying data supports.
We have recommended products we have no affiliate relationship with above products we do have affiliate relationships with. We will always do so where the data supports it.

Some CounterRoots articles are drafted with AI assistance (Claude by Anthropic). All AI-assisted content:
