Data point worth knowing: Cilantro requires a vernalization-like signal to flower: sustained room temperatures above 27 °C reliably trigger bolting within 10–14 days regardless of photoperiod. Keeping the grow space below 24 °C (and the reservoir at 15–18 °C) is more effective at preventing bolting than reducing light hours.

Key nutrients to monitor:

Keep pH within the stated range; nutrients become unavailable (locked out) when pH drifts even one unit outside the window. Check with a calibrated pH meter - pH pen strips are not accurate enough for hydroponics.


Step-by-step growing

  1. Crush seed hulls gently before sowing - each 'seed' is actually two seeds fused; cracking the hull improves germination by 30–40%.
  2. Germinate at 15–20 °C; avoid warm germination chambers.
  3. Transplant to NFT or DWC at EC 1.0 and pH 6.5.
  4. Harvest outer stems when 15–20 cm tall; never remove more than 1/3 of plant mass at once.
  5. Maintain room temperature strictly below 24 °C to delay bolting.
