Normal vs. Worry: What to Watch

  • Normal: Slightly waxy, smooth, rounded leaves - characteristic butter lettuce texture.
  • Normal: Outer leaves slightly paler than the inner heart - normal light gradient.
  • Worry: All leaves completely flat with no inward cupping after 3 weeks - DWC vs NFT system mismatch or wrong spacing; switch systems or increase spacing.
  • Worry: Brown papery tips on innermost newest leaves - tip burn; add fan and lower temp.
  • Worry: Distinctly bitter flavour on outer leaves - EC too high or plant over-mature; harvest sooner.
