Harvest & nutrition
Harvest the whole head by twisting or cutting at the base. The inner leaves are the most tender and flavourful - peel outer leaves for garnish. Refrigerate in a sealed bag up to 8 days. Butter lettuce does not tolerate the cut-and-come-again approach as well as loose-leaf types.
Expected yield: 100–180 g per head
Regular harvesting is not just practical - it usually encourages the plant to produce more. Harvesting too infrequently often leads to bolting (in leafy crops) or quality decline.
