Normal vs. Worry: What to Watch

  • Normal: White root hairs appearing fuzzy around the base of stubs - healthy root growth, not rot or slime.
  • Normal: Slight yellowing of the very oldest (outermost) blade tips - natural senescence on oldest tissue.
  • Worry: Roots turning brown and slimy with a foul smell - anaerobic bacteria or Pythium; clean reservoir and lightproof immediately.
  • Worry: Yellowing spreading from the tips of the newest, freshest growth - micronutrient deficiency; add Mn and Zn.
  • Worry: Stems flopping over completely - either insufficient light or EC too low; address both.

Prevention Checklist
